Tottenham sign free agent Solomon to bolster frontline

Tottenham have signed free agent Manor Solomon.

Solomon was contracted to Shakhtar Donetsk but spent last season on loan at Fulham — scoring four goals in the Premier League.

His season was disrupted as the Israeli international suffered a long-term knee injury at the start of the campaign and did not make another competitive appearance for the Cottagers until January.

He then found the back of the net in five straight games against Nottingham Forest, Brighton, Wolves, Leeds and Brentford.

Solomon's contract with the Ukrainian club was due to expire on December 31 but FIFA ruled in May that all foreign players based in Ukraine or Russia would be able to suspend their contracts again for a further year.

The 23-year-old becomes Ange Postecoglou's third signing of the window, following England midfielder James Maddison and Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

But keeping Harry Kane at the club remains the tactician's No1 priority.

Speaking in his first press conference since taking the post, he said: "What I want is to introduce myself to Harry and give him my vision of the football club and get a sense from him on what he thinks the club needs to do to be successful and walk out on that training pitch and try to make it happen.

"He's one of the premier strikers in the world and I want him involved."

Solomon could make his first appearance against London rivals West Ham in a friendly next Tuesday.
