Galtier follows Messi out of exit door as PSG sack under-fire coach

Paris Saint-Germain have sacked manager Christophe Galtier.

Galtier, 56, spent only a year in the French capital after guiding the Ligue 1 giants to a fifth league title in six seasons.

A club statement read: "The whole of PSG thanks Christophe Galtier, as well as his assistants, for the professionalism and commitment shown throughout the season and wishes them the best for the rest of their careers.

"The capital club took the lead in Ligue 1 from the first day, never to leave it again this season, a first in the history of the French championship."

Despite clinching the domestic crown by a point from second-placed Lens, a last-16 exit in the Champions League to Bayern Munich last March was a cause for major concern.

Marseille-born coach Galtier was unable to get the most out of a talented group of players, which ultimately led to Lionel Messi's decision to exit the club at the end of his two-year contract.

A Coupe de France defeat to Marseille, along with seven league losses, gave Parc des Princes chiefs little cause to stick with Galtier, who replaced Mauricio Pochettino last summer.

Ex-Spain and Barcelona boss Luis Enrique is now firmly in the frame to take the reins as the Qatari owners mount another rebuild.

The Spaniard is set to be presented as PSG's new boss in a news conference scheduled later today.

He has been out of work since leaving the Spain job after a shock World Cup last-16 exit at the hands of Morocco in Qatar.
